Game summary
Feudal Japan finally gets the full Assassin's Creed treatment, and the dual-protagonist setup completely changes how you tackle missions. Naoe plays like a traditional shinobi. You crawl across roofs, cut through paper sliding doors with a kunai, use a grappling hook to scale castle keeps, and vanish into darkness by blowing out lanterns. Yasuke plays like an absolute tank. He stands his ground against entire squads of guards, parrying katana strikes with heavy armor and smashing defenses with massive historical weapons. The open world covers multiple provinces with distinct terrain, ranging from snowy mountain passes to sprawling castle towns dominated by samurai lords. Seasons shift dynamically as you play. Winter snow slows your movement and strips away foliage cover, while autumn leaves and rainstorms alter visibility for patrolling guards. You can scout a fortress as Naoe to mark targets from the rafters, then switch to Yasuke when things go loud and you want to smash the front gate down. Between main story assassinations, you manage a hideout where local recruits train and craft specialized armor sets. You send spies out across the map to gather intelligence on regional templar targets. Traversal feels fast and responsive on the PS5 hardware, with almost zero load times when fast-traveling across provinces. If you missed the pure stealth roots of earlier games while also enjoying the massive historical sandboxes of recent entries, this layout hits a nice middle ground.
